Cherry Angiomas

Cherry angiomas, or spider angiomas, are red, benign lesions on the skin made from overgrown blood vessels. They are generally less than 5mm (0.2 inches) in diameter, and cluster together. Although they are harmless, they can be unsightly and bleed easily, leading to many seeking removal of cherry angiomas in Chicago.

Causes of Angiomas

There are several main causes of cherry angioma:

  • Aging
  • Pregnancy
  • Genetic factors
  • Viral etiology
  • Specific genetic mutations.

How is Cherry Angiomas Treated?

At Bella Sana Med Spa, cherry angiomas’ treatment involves laser therapy, where specific light frequencies damage the enlarged vessels and the blood inside them. Over several days, these turn into scabs and break down as your body removes them naturally.

You will most likely need only one session, as cherry angiomas are very small and can be easily permanently damaged. If they are larger, cherry angiomas’ treatment can require three to six sessions for complete removal, as the blood vessels are able to repair themselves.

During each laser treatment for angioma, the affected area is first cooled before the laser fires a powerful beam of light at a specific pulse duration. Its frequency is set to a wavelength that matches the pigment of the blood trapped in angiomas. The blood absorbs this wavelength, but is damaged by its strength and coagulates inside the enlarged vessels. As no oxygen or nutrients can travel through the angiomas, the vessels cannot survive this coagulation.

These pigments are only in cherry angiomas, not in normal, healthy tissue, so the laser won’t damage your skin. Bella Sana Med Spa has successfully treated many cases of angioma with no harmful effects.

Removing cherry angiomas can help you maintain a more youthful appearance and state of mind, especially if you have clusters known as spider angiomas. Additionally, their nature as raised lesions that bleed easily can be uncomfortable if they rub against clothing such as bra straps. The benefits of using laser for cherry angiomas in Chicago are its safety and efficacy, with eventual permanent removal. It is unlikely to leave scarring behind too, and you can expect the scabbing to fall off in several days.
