What is Juvederm?

Juvederm® is an injectable dermal filler that mainly contains Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural body substance that retains water molecules inside the cellular matrix. It was developed to restore face skin volume minimizing fine lines and wrinkles and overall resulting in a youthful skin appearance. The injectable can be safely used for adults over 21 years old.

Medical professionals can choose the types of best Juvederm fillers based on the face areas and initial skin appearance. Additionally, using the combination of different Juvederms can maximize the treatment effect. The consultation is required to discuss the detailed treatment process, appropriate expectations, and post-treatment instructions. 

Who is a good candidate? 

Although it is a non-surgical procedure, a person must be physically and emotionally healthy. The best results are observed among people who quickly recover from the injections. Also, it is recommended to have realistic expectations of the treatment. How does it work exactly?

By injecting into facial tissues, this hyaluronic acid gel adds volume and smoothes facial lines, reducing wrinkles and folds. It is not a one-time solution because, as time goes by, your body will absorb the acid, and the benefits will be less visible. Depending on how quickly the patient’s body processes the filler, the duration of results can vary and last up to one year. 

After the treatment, it is generally recommended to: 

• Avoid the heat, especially saunas, steam rooms, direct sunlight, hot showers, etc 
• keep away from a hot stove
• avoid active physical activity. It may raise your blood pressure and pulse, causing more bruising and swelling
• steer clear of alcohol for 24 hours
• avoid facial massages
• not apply make-up in the next 24 hours

While some of the results are visible instantly (increased volume of skin, reduced wrinkles), it takes about 72 hours, and in some cases, up to 2 weeks to see all the benefits of Juvederm injections.
